Biography

GUO Yingzhi holds a Ph.D. in Human Geography and is currently a Professor, Ph.D. supervisor, postdoctoral supervisor as well as a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar in the Department of Tourism at Fudan University. Her expertise area lies in cultural tourism, leisure studies, convention and exhibition markets, as well as brand marketing for cultural and events tourism.

In terms of her educational background and work experience, Professor GUO Yingzhi graduated in the year of 1999 with a Ph.D. degree in Human Geography from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research. In the same year, she entered the postdoctoral research station of Business Administration at Fudan University and completed her postdoctoral research in 2001. Since then, she has been working in the Department of Tourism at Fudan University.

Professor GUO Yingzhi has been a visiting scholar to School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Sejong University, Tourism Economics and Marketing Institute at Dresden University of Technology, Department of Leisure and Tourism Department at Stralsund University of Applied Sciences. As a senior research scholar of the Fulbright program, Professor Dr. GUO Yingzhi has visited and collaborated with Harvard University, Boston University, Oklahoma State University, Temple University, San Francisco State University, University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Carolina, etc.

In terms of research projects, Professor GUO Yingzhi has led numerous vertical projects at the national, provincial and ministerial, as well as international levels. She has also presided over multiple decision-making consultation and tourism planning projects for governments and enterprises across provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. These include various vertical projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Post-funded Project of the National Social Science Fund, sub-projects of major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, sub-projects of key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Shanghai Science and Technology Committee (Shanghai Pujiang Talent Plan), and the Research Initiation Grants for Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars from the Ministry of Education. Additionally, she has been involved in international collaboration projects such as the Fulbright Program of the United States Congress, the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS), and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She has also undertaken numerous projects entrusted by central or local government tourism agencies such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, which includes tourism development strategies, master plans and market planning

In terms of academic publications, Professor GUO Yingzhi has authored or co-authored over 100 academic journal articles as the first author or corresponding author from Tourism Management (SSCI), Journal of Travel Research (SSCI), International Journal of Leisure and Tourism Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, Journal of Tourism and Leisure Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Journal of Landscape Research, Tourism Economics, Journal of China Tourism Research, Economic Management, Tourism Tribune, Tourism Science, Economic Geography, Human Geography, etc. Furthermore, she has co-authored more than 200 papers at international academic conferences both domestically and internationally, and supervised the publication of over 100 papers by undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.

In terms of monograph publications, Professor GUO Yingzhi has published numerous monographs on tourism and MICE markets, including “Market Positioning and Influencing Factors of China's Outbound Tourism Market”, “Tourism Cultural Market: Frontier Theory and Empirical Cases”, “Updated theory & Empirical Study on MICE Tourism Market”, “The China Tourism Market: Advanced Theory and Empirical Cases”, “Demand and Development of China's Tourism Market”, “Ethnic Tourism Market: Frontier Theory and Empirical Research”. Additionally, she has translated and published “ManagingVisitor Attractions: New Directions”.

In terms of textbook publication, Professor GUO Yingzhi has compiled national-level planned textbooks. Specifically, he is the author of “Tourism Marketing ” ( The 1st - 5th edition), which wwas included in the “11th Five-Year Plan” series of textbooks planned by the Ministry of Education for universities. She is also the chief editor of “Introduction to Convention and Exhibition”, which is part of a series of textbooks for the Convention and Exhibition Planning and Practice Qualification Examination under the Shanghai Urgently Needed Talents Training Program.

Professor GUO Yingzhi serves as the main instructor for the course “Tourism Market Research”. This course has been honored as a high-quality course at various levels, including national, provincial, and university levels. Specifically, it has been recognized as a Selected English Curriculum for International Students by the Ministry of Education, an Selected English Curriculum in Shanghai, a Shanghai Exquisite Course, a Shanghai Core Course, a Fudan University Exquisite Course, a Fudan University English-taught Exquisite Course, a Core Course for Graduate Students at Fudan University, and a First-class Course Design at Fudan University. In addition, Professor GUO Yingzhi also teaches undergraduate, master's, and doctoral elective courses, including“Tourism Marketing Management”,“Tourism Marketing”,“Specialized English for Graduate Students”,“Frontier Theories in Tourism Management”and“Tourism Industry Analysis”.

In terms of talent cultivation, Professor GUO Yingzhi has been working at the forefront of teaching for a long time, guiding over 30 undergraduate projects under the Xiyuan, Wangdao and Junzheng programs, which are part of Fudan's Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program(FDUROP), and mentoring more than 100 postdoctoral researchers, full-time doctoral students, full-time master's students and MTA master's students. Meanwhile, in terms of international and domestic academic exchanges, Professor Guo has led undergraduates, master's students, and doctoral students to participate in academic conferences held by universities in various regions in China, including Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shandong, Yunnan, and Sichuan, as well as in countries such as South Korea, the United States, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan. She has guided undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers to publish over 100 papers at academic conferences both domestically and internationally.
